About Kevin

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way - things I had no words for.” - Georgia O’Keeffe

Hello and thank you for visiting my website! It is a pleasure to have you here.

My name is Kevin and I am a scientist-turned-artist that was born and raised in California. I moved with my partner to Portugal in the summer of 2022 after completing my PhD in the sciences. I used to draw many cartoons when I was little, but then took a long break from art to focus on my studies in biochemistry. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that I fell back in love with art after receiving an iPad as a gift and started playing around with digital painting on Procreate. A couple years later, I discovered the wonders of traditional oil painting and figure drawing.

I am a self-taught artist, but you will find me often attending the figure drawing life sessions at the Lx Atelier in Lisbon.  If I could describe my style, I would say that I am drawn towards figurative art or portraiture with a blend of abstraction in the background. In particular, I aim to create works that focus on male figure and portraiture that convey a sense of beauty, awe, mood, and mystery. Artists from the 19th century including Gustav Klimt, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Joaquín Sorolla, and Albert Herter strongly influence my work. I also greatly appreciate works from contemporary artists such as Rosso Emerald Crimson, Ron Hicks, Daniel Sprick, Joshua Larock, Bertrand Martin, and many more.

Please subscribe to my mailing list if you would like to receive updates on works for sale, progress posts of my paintings, or any upcoming events!
